Every unfolding step of Israel’s journey has something to teach the believer in Israel’s Messiah, Yeshua ha Mashiach, Jesus the Messiah. In this study, as we accompany Moses and Israel on their journey, we will also be making our own pilgrimage through the wilderness. I pray this study will deepen your intimacy with Yeshua and open your heart and life to the fullness of the redemption He bought for us.
Topic 1 - SLAVERY TO FREEDOM
"WOE TO THOSE WHO GO DOWN TO EGYPT FOR HELP" (Is.31:1)
Egypt is a 'type' of 'sin' or what the NT refers to as 'the world'. We are told that friendship with the world is enmity with God. (James 4:4) Many are the references in the NT of sin being a type of slavery (Jn 8:34; 2Pet.2:19; Rom.6:16)
Jesus said, I HAVE COME ... TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE.(Is 61, Lk.4:18) The greater we have known the captivity of sin, the more we may appreciate freedom from it. If you are a Christian, but have never realized freedom from slavery to sin, this journey could be very exciting.
Q.1 Am I truly free from the world's hold on me ... or is this a process, a journey that never truly ends in this lifetime?
Topic 2 - THE ENCOUNTER AT THE WELL
When Moses fled to Midian he sat down by a well and there he defended the 7 daughters of the priest of Midian from the shepherds who would drive them away, and helped them water their flock. One of them was to become his wife.
You may recall that Abraham's servant met Rebekah, wife-to-be of Isaac, at a well. Jacob met Rachel, his future wife, at a well. Read Gen. 29 and Ex. 2 and note the clear parallels. Why would God put these linking stories in the Torah?
The Torah points to Messiah on every page. Would Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well find any parallels in these stories? Meditate on this question, and let the Holy Spirit bring it all together. I'm sure you will be totally blessed as you discover the inner beauty of God's precious Word.
